What Is Civil Documentation?
Civil documents are the official documents that prove who you are. They include birth, marriage, divorce and death certificates, national identity cards, and other important documents used to register family and life events.
Civil documents prove your identity, nationality, and family status. They also help you access government and humanitarian services.
Why Is Civil Documentation Important?
Government agencies ask for identity documents in order to register births, marriages, divorces, and deaths and to review residency documents. Civil documents are necessary to enroll children in school, to receive medical services and to access government subsidies and entitlements. Employers may ask for proof of your identity to employ you or register you for workplace insurance. Property owners may ask for proof of identity before signing a lease with you.
Civil documents are also necessary in case you decide to return to your country. You must have civil documentation to obtain a passport and to prove the Syrian nationality of your children.
